Lower Broadway construction enters next phase

Daytime closure of North St. Mary’s Street and Ashby Place intersection scheduled for Saturday, July 22
SAN ANTONIO (August 28, 2023) – Beginning Tuesday, September 5, 2023, through December 2023, two sections of Lower Broadway will be closed for roadway reconstruction. See attached map.
The two closed sections are:
- Broadway from 4th Street to McCullough Avenue
- Broadway from 6th Street to Brooklyn
The intersection of Broadway at McCullough Avenue will remain open to eastbound and westbound traffic on McCullough Avenue throughout this closure.
The closures are coordinated to maintain access to all businesses along and near the Lower Broadway corridor — either via Broadway or its side streets. Signage will alert drivers of the detour route.
Pedestrians will have access along existing sidewalks on both sides. The City has met and will continue to meet with stakeholders to ensure they are receiving support, information and resources during this period.
The intersection of Broadway and E. Jones Ave. is now open to northbound and southbound traffic on Broadway. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Jones remains closed through August 2023 for overhead and underground work.
This work is part of the 2017 Lower Broadway bond project, which is scheduled for completion in Summer 2024.
