SAN ANTONIO (April 19, 2024) — San Antonio’s biggest party is here, and the City of San Antonio Office of Sustainability is encouraging residents and visitors alike to Fiesta sustainably. Everyone can contribute to keeping San Antonio beautiful and green by following these tips while enjoying the festivities this year.

Go Biodegradable  When using confetti, choose biodegradable or flower confetti instead of metallic or plastic confetti, which can harm the river and wildlife. Make sure confetti cannons contain 100% biodegradable, water-soluble confetti, and recycle the cannon tubes.

Reuse & Recycle – If you take drinks and snacks to the festivities, consider using reusable containers. Look for reusable cups that are designed to take home at events. Recycle bottles and cans at the City’s Solid Waste Management stations located through the Battle of Flowers or Fiesta Flambeau parade routes for a chance to get a Fiesta medal, supplies are extremely limited. Just look for the giant inflatable recycling and organic bins at these locations:

  • Crockett Park (East Side)
  • Madison Square Park (West Side)
  • Brooklyn Bleachers (Brooklyn & St. Mary’s)
  • Torch of Friendship (Alamo/Commerce)

Go Paperless – Many of Fiesta’s most popular events now have e-ticketing options. Present your tickets on your phone when possible. Check for this option before requesting paper tickets or printing them at home.

Use Less Energy Getting Around – Consider using alternative methods of transportation to get around town, such as cycling, walking, ridesharing, carpooling, or riding the bus. For more information on VIA Metropolitan Transit bus and Park & Ride services, visit

Dispose of Trash Correctly – Pick up after yourself. Place trash in the designated containers. The San Antonio River is one of San Antonio's greatest treasures, help keep it clean and healthy for everyone to enjoy. Don't let litter trash your river.
