District 3 Councilwoman Celebrates the Successful Passing of Fiscal Year 2024 Budget of $3.7 Billion


SAN ANTONIO (September 13, 2023) — District 3 Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran along with her City Council Colleagues and Mayor, successfully passed the $3.7 billion operating and capital fiscal year 2024 budget. This budget represents a 9.5 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year, demonstrating the city's commitment to addressing the evolving needs and priorities of its residents.

The Councilwoman, who tirelessly championed the cause of District 3 throughout the budget process, expressed her deep dedication to the community with the following statement: 

"The community shared their priorities, and I worked endlessly to make sure District 3 was part of every conversation. This budget continues to place our constituents, small businesses, and nonprofits at the forefront. The collaborations with our community helped ensure that their voices were heard during this budget cycle." 

Key highlights of the FY 2024 Capital and Operating budget include:

  • Increase Homestead Exemptions
  • Investments in Public Safety
  • Enhanced Animal Care Services
  • Support for the Homelessness Initiatives 
  • Infrastructure maintenance 

Adopted budget highlights for District 3 include:

  • Street Improvements 
  • Infrastructure Management Program
  • S. Gevers Street Drainage Improvement 
  • Fire Station 21 Replacement 
  • Park Improvements 

In closing, the Councilwoman emphasized:

"This has been a collective endeavor, and I want to express gratitude to the City manager, Deputy City Manager, Office of Management and Budget and all the departments that contributed to the development of this year's budget. It was a monumental task, and they have provided the confidence that as we move forward, we will witness increased teamwork and dialogue from Team San Antonio."
