District 1 Councilwoman Remarks on Approval of Phase One of Brackenridge Park Bond Project

SAN ANTONIO (August 3, 2023) – City Council approved Phase 1 of the Brackenridge Park project. Councilwoman Kaur made the following remarks following the vote:

“After carefully weighing the evidence and listening to community input, I ultimately voted in support of Phase 1 of the Brackenridge Park project. The compromise plan approved today is the best path forward for the park.

In our discussions, the City, independent arborists and project team stressed the City’s responsibility to reduce the risk of trees falling on residents and prioritize public safety.

Brackenridge Park has a long history of neglect and underinvestment. Today, I requested the City prioritize developing and funding a sustainable maintenance plan to ensure future generations don’t repeat this.

Thank you to the River Road Neighborhood Association and neighboring communities for their insights and feedback. Your time and effort played an important role in refining the project plans.

Recognition and commendations are due to Councilman McKee-Rodriguez and his team. They played a critical role in reducing the project’s impact on the park’s trees.”
