D6 Councilwoman Highlights FY2023 Budget Proposal
Published on August 10, 2023
SAN ANTONIO (August 10, 2023) –The San Antonio City Council officially began its FY2024 budget discussions with a staff presentation of the 2024 Proposed Operating and Capital Budget.
Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda issued the following statement:
“There are three important things that I want to emphasize as the Council begins earnest budget deliberations.
One, the proposed budget is the product of an ongoing and months-long conversation between the Council and City staff.
Two, the proposed budget is a working document that enhances the city’s basic needs - safety, streets and sidewalks, infrastructure, parks, and libraries.
Three, the District 6 staff and I have been working for weeks to ensure that the District’s needs are met and the concerns are addressed.
- Funding to increase mental health resources for our first responders.
- An increase in Animal Care Services positions, including a dedicated veterinarian.
- An increase in Spay/Neuter availability.
- Funding for a Women’s reproductive health program.
- Enhanced library card expansion to all library branches.
- Increases in the youth targeted Safety Corp/Hero Like Her public safety programs.
- And a much needed traffic light on Grissom Road.
The coming weeks will provide many opportunities for the community to comment on the proposed budget. District 6 residents can participate in the discussion during the Budget Town Hall scheduled for Monday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Alicia Treviño Lopez Senior Center – 8353 Culebra Rd, 78251.”
