Critical Incident Video Release: 700 Southcross Blvd

SAN ANTONIO (February 16, 2024) – Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD released videos from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, January 18th, 2024.

January 18, 2024 – 700 block of Southcross. Two SAPD officers, riding in the same marked patrol vehicle, conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation. Officer Edgardo Valladares #1464 contacted the driver and asked him to step out of the vehicle after smelling the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver refused and began to physically fight with the officers as the officers attempted to detain him. During the struggle, one officer observed the 42-year-old suspect, Jervon Harper, with a handgun. Fearing for their lives, both officers pulled out their duty weapons and Officer Valladares fired a single round at Harper, striking him. Harper (SID 706465) was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Officer Valladares #1464 has three years of service.
