Critical Incident Video Release: 2800 block of Ravina Drive

SAN ANTONIO (April 3, 2024) – Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD will release video from the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, March 4, 2024 this afternoon. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident.

SAPD Covert Unit officers were conducting surveillance at a home located at the 2800 block of Ravina Drive for a suspect wanted for Aggravated Robbery. After several hours, covert officers observed the suspect exit the house and walk to a vehicle in the driveway. Covert Unit members, in an unmarked van, approached the residence from the south side of the street. A Covert Unit officer who was riding in the rear passenger side told the Covert detective who was driving that the suspect was reaching for a gun. As the officers gave verbal commands, the suspect reached for a gun in his waistband. Two officers opened fire and the suspect was struck multiple times. EMS arrived and transported the suspect, 35-year-old Raymond Mireles, to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A loaded handgun was recovered from the suspect at the scene. No officers were injured during this incident. Officer Juan Dominguez #1712 has 12 years of service and Detective James Quintanilla #2735 has 15 years of service.

As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the incident.
