Community Household Hazardous Waste Event

City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management 


SAN ANTONIO (February 16, 2023) – City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) customers are invited to participate in a special Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) event at 2755 Rigsby Rd, on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, from 8 a.m.-noon.

Paint, oil, chemicals, pesticides, batteries, and electronics will be accepted at this event.

Guidelines:

  • Contents should be kept in the original container.
  • If the container is leaking, transfer contents to a leak proof or lined cardboard box.
  • Do not mix different materials in the same container or bag.
  • Place all items in a box and put it in the trunk or truck bed.
  • A technician will unload the box and return it upon request.
  • If materials are brought in a non-approved container such as its original packaging, the container will not be returned.
  • Paint and other liquid waste are limited to five 5-gallon cans or 25 1-gallon cans with a 220-pound limit.
  • Non-accepted items include household garbage, ammunition, fireworks, and medical waste.

A complete list of accepted and non-accepted items can be found at SArecycles.org. Solid Waste Management customers must present a valid picture ID and a copy of their most recent CPS Energy bill, showing payment of the Environmental Fee.

The permanent HHW drop-off center is open year-round Tuesday through Saturday and located at 7030 Culebra Road. The City also has monthly drop-off events at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway and quarterly drop-off events at 2755 Rigsby. The next drop-off events at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway will be Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4. The next drop-off event at our 2755 Rigsby location will be on Saturday, May 20.
