Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence Kicks Off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with Fourth Annual Symposium and Media Availability

SAN ANTONIO (October 4, 2023) - October is observed annually as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence (CCDV) will host its Fourth Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Symposium this Thursday, October 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, October 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. featuring 20 sessions to educate the community about innovations in addressing domestic violence.

This free virtual event aims to bring domestic violence prevention to the forefront of community and policy discussions through forward-thinking sessions. This year’s symposium theme focuses on building hope and resilience in our families and communities. More than a dozen local and national subject matter experts will present on topics that can better inform the public, as well as legal professionals and providers who serve survivors, offenders, and their families.

“The CCDV is committed to educating the community on domestic violence and improving the system that supports people impacted by it,” said Deputy City Manager Maria Villagomez, CCDV Co-Chair. “This symposium is part of those efforts.”

“The symposium is an opportunity for community members and professionals in the field to come together through thought-provoking sessions and speaker presentations that help improve our community’s collective response to domestic violence,” said 150th District Court Judge Monique Diaz, CCDV Co-Chair.

A complete list of speakers and the presentation schedule may be found on the registration page. To register for this free, virtual symposium, visit the website here.
