City to Award One Million in Grants to Local Schools

SAN ANTONIO (February 20, 2023) – One million dollars of the City of San Antonio’s newly created Resiliency, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability fund will provide grants to San Antonio’s public, charter and private schools for developing climate action and sustainability projects. The Eco Scholars program is part of San Antonio’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). Schools can be awarded up to $10,000 for projects or programs directly tied to climate action and sustainability goals.

Applications are due March 15, 2023 and projects must be completed by May 1, 2024. Complete details and the application form are at SArecycles.org.

The program is open to grades 1 – 12 and all campuses in the school districts below may apply. Charter and private schools must be inside the San Antonio city limits.

Grants will be awarded in three tiers at $3,000, $5,000 and $10,000 and schools may submit more than one project. Fifty percent of the grant will be awarded before the end of the 2023 school year and the remaining fifty percent will be awarded at the completion of the project. If the project’s actual cost is less than the grant amount, schools may use the remaining funds for other pre-approved school improvements.
