City of San Antonio seeks applicants for Interim City Council District 7 Vacancy


SAN ANTONIO (January 26, 2023) – The City of San Antonio Office of the City Clerk will begin accepting applications to fill the City Council District 7 vacancy starting Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at City Hall. The interim vacancy was left by the resignation of Councilmember Ana Sandoval. Applications will be accepted in person through noon on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023. Appointments are encouraged by contacting the City Clerk.
 
No applications will be accepted on Feb. 17 or 20 in order to avoid conflict with filings for a place on the May general election ballot.
 
All applicants must meet the following requirements to hold office:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a qualified voter of the City of San Antonio by the filing deadline.
  • Must have resided in San Antonio, Texas continuously for one year prior to filing the application.
  • Must have resided in the respective council district for at least six months prior to filing the application and continue to do so throughout the term of office. If residing in an area that was annexed into the City recently, the applicant must have lived at your residence six months prior to annexation.
  • Must not have been determined mentally incapacitated by a final judgment of a court or have been finally convicted of a felony unless pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities of that felony conviction. Successful completion of probation or parole does not make a convicted felon eligible to hold an elected office.

Timeline:

  • Feb. 10, 2023: Applications will be available on the City Clerk website.
  • Feb. 13, 2023 at 8:30 a.m.: The Office of the City Clerk will begin accepting applications. (Applications will not be accepted on Feb. 17 or 20 to avoid conflict with filings for a place on the May general election ballot.)
  • Feb. 24, 2023, at noon: Deadline for the Office of the City Clerk to receive applications.
  • March 1, 2023: City Council will shortlist applicants at B Session.
  • March 2, 2023: City Council will interview and select the Interim Councilmember at A session. The selected Interim Councilmember will be sworn in and take their official seat.
