Students to learn about judicial branch’s role in local government

SAN ANTONIO (November 1, 2022) - The San Antonio Municipal Court joins municipal courts across Texas in celebrating Municipal Court Week November 7-9, 2022. During the celebration, the Municipal Court will welcome local area elementary and high school students to learn about its critical role in the criminal justice system and how it contributes to a safer community.

“Municipal Court Week emphasizes the vital role of the Judicial branch of government and introduces visiting students to opportunities in the legal field,” said Municipal Court Presiding Judge Carla Obledo. “This year’s celebration is shaping up to be the Court’s biggest to date.”

The week will include judge and staff presentations; traffic safety displays and materials; giveaways; and booths from partner non-profit organizations, state agencies and City departments. The public is also invited to visit the Municipal Court at 401 S Frio St from 9 a.m.-noon to learn more about their local court.

Prescribed by the 86th Texas Legislature in House Resolution 1658, Municipal Court Week is a week dedicated to appreciating the contributions that Texas municipal courts make to the safety and well-being of our communities.
