SAN ANTONIO (February 26, 2024) – The City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is offering free compost starting on February 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bitters Brush Recycling Center located at 1800 Wurzbach Pkwy.

  • As quantities are limited, customers will be limited to 1 truckload per person.
  • Those without a truck can bring bags or containers to haul away compost.
  • All loads must be covered with a tarp and customers are highly encouraged to wear a safety vest.

The free compost is from the City’s green cart program and sponsored by Atlas Organics. Customers wanting additional compost may purchase directly from Atlas Organics located at 8963 Nelson Rd. Atlas Organics permitted, developed, and constructed an approximately 125,000 tons per year of yard waste and food waste composting facility through a public/private partnership with the City of San Antonio and currently processes the food and yard waste from the SWMD’s green cart program.
