Competitors participate in a scavenger hunt, trivia and more, showcasing historic San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO (April 18, 2023) — The City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) invites the community to face off at the Amazing Preservation Race on Friday, May 12. As part of Preservation Month observed every May, this yearly event showcases historic San Antonio and engages the community in local culture and history.

The Amazing Preservation Race is the ultimate urban scavenger hunt. It’s the only race of its kind – think CBS’s Amazing Race but in historic downtown San Antonio. Teams of 4 follow clues and complete challenges to fill their passports before racing to the finish. The first team to cross the finish line with their completed passport wins.

For ten years, OHP’s Amazing Preservation Race has challenged San Antonio’s finest to compete through feats of strength and knowledge. The competition showcases San Antonio culture and history through many fast-paced activities including a scavenger hunt, trivia night, and obstacle course. Teams solve riddles to learn the location of each stop where they must then complete a mental and physical test.

This year, City Manager Erik Walsh is inviting teams from the community to compete against the City Manager's Office along with other City departments. Teams will start and finish in Legacy Park and enjoy a post-race celebration upon completion. Check-in time is 6 p.m. and the race begins at 6:30 p.m. Prizes will be given to the top three fastest teams and the best team costumes.
