Annual #FilmSA Competition Winners Announced

Awards and screening ceremony to take place May 6, 2023, at Mission Marquee Plaza.


SAN ANTONIO (May 4, 2023) – Today, The San Antonio Film Commission, a division of the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts and Culture, announced the winners of its annual #FilmSA Contest. Hosted in collaboration with the City of San Antonio's World Heritage Office, contest applicants had the option to enter films in two categories: "Heritage and Quality of Life" or "City Parks of San Antonio." Filmmakers were entered into the age categories 14 – 17 years old and 18 – 21 years old with a total of four winners receiving $1,000 awards and a public screening at an Awards Ceremony held at Mission Marquee Plaza (3100 Roosevelt Ave.) at 8 p.m. on May 6, 2023.
 

2023 #FilmSA Contest Winners:

  • City Parks of San Antonio/Ages 14-17: 
  • Ricardo Gonzalez and Austin Lambert for "Skywalk"
  • City Parks of San Antonio/Ages 18-21: 
  • Eagle News Network Team for "Pearsall Park: Wood and Wheels"
  • Heritage and Quality of Life/Ages 14-17:
  • Team including Ryan and Owen Santa Cruz Agnesi for "The Missions of San Antonio"
  • Heritage and Quality of Life/Ages 18-21: 
  • Kyle Ward for "Yes We Can"

The “Heritage and Quality of Life” winning films will be automatically entered into the Organization of World Heritage Cities’ (OWHC) 7th Annual International Video Production Competition. The winners of this international film competition will be decided by July 2023.
 
“Our goal to is to celebrate these youth filmmakers and expose them to the art and craft of filmmaking,“ said Department of Arts & Culture Executive Director Krystal Jones. “This contest gave contestants the opportunity to understand common film festival practices, guidelines and application processes, plus other key life skills such as planning, organization and collaboration. We are delighted to provide this platform and spotlight their perseverance and determination.”

The San Antonio Film Commission is a one-stop shop for all things filmmaking in the seventh largest city in the US.
