San Antonio International Airport Ranked #5 in U.S. as SAT Sees Record-Breaking Labor Day Weekend
San Antonio (September 6, 2023) — San Antonio International Airport (SAT) experienced another record-breaking holiday travel weekend. About 160,000 travelers flew into and out of SAT from last Thursday through Labor Day. That’s a 13% increase in passengers compared to 2019 and 10% more than last year. This news comes as a recent study from MarketWatch Guides ranked SAT #5 in the United States for being stress-free and reliable.
“We’re setting record after record this year. More people are choosing SAT because they know it’s an easy experience,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System (SAAS). “Travelers are excited to visit the Alamo City and our community values SAT to travel elsewhere. They know we will get them there and it will be smooth.”
According to MarketWatch Guides, these are the top 10 U.S. airports for the most stress-free travel experience from check-in to take-off:
- Daniel K. Inouye International Airport
- San Jose International Airport
- Fresno Yosemite International Airport
- Sacramento International Airport
- San Antonio International Airport
- Ontario International Airport
- Oakland International Airport
- Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport
- Orlando Sanford International Airport
- Portland International Airport
The study also found that 83.5% of flights are on time and only 2.4% of flights are canceled annually at SAT.
Beginning October 5, two airlines are offering more nonstop flights at SAT:
- Southwest Airlines (WN) will increase flights to San Diego to twice daily.
- American Airlines (AA) will increase flights to Dallas-Ft. Worth to 13 times daily, which is a net increase of 3,600 seats a week on average.
- AA will add a fourth daily flight to Phoenix (PHX), bringing the total daily flights to eight, including four daily flights on WN.
- WN’s seasonal service to Colorado Springs (COS) will resume on November 21.

Pratte said SAT is experiencing growth as well to newer markets, such as:
- Boston, MA (BOS)
- Leon/Guanajuato, Mexico (BJX)
- Oklahoma City, OK (OKC)
- Albuquerque, NM (ABQ)
