Temporary Pet Parents Needed

SAN ANTONIO (August 14, 2026) – Hundreds of pets are brought into the San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) shelter every week. Many of them need time to decompress and learn how to become a beloved family pet before heading to their forever homes. That’s where pet fosters come in. SAACS is hosting another class in our “Sit. Stay. Learn.” series that will focus on the benefits of pet fostering. 

The Foster 101 class is a “people only” course on Sunday, August 16 from 11 a.m. to noon at the municipal shelter, 4710 State Highway 151, that details what it’s like fostering a shelter pet. Attendees will learn about the types of pets most in need of fosters and the perks of participating in the SAACS foster program, which includes free food and supplies. Attendees will also get tips for prepping their homes for temporary canine or feline guests. 

While both new and prospective pet fosters are welcome, all companion animals should be left at home. Residents can sign up at SAACS.info/fosterclass.
