Celebrate National Library Card Sign-up Month by trying out a new library service.

SAN ANTONIO (September 4, 2025) — The San Pedro Branch Library, 1315 San Pedro Ave., is celebrating 95 years of dedicated service to San Antonio by taking residents back in time to when the library first opened in August 1930.

To commemorate this milestone, the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) will host a 1930s-themed anniversary celebration on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. The celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a special speaking ceremony, followed by free, family-friendly activities from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Activities will pay tribute to the 1930s and include vintage crafts such as flyable paper kites and paper dolls. Participants can enjoy vintage tabletop toys and more.

The San Pedro Park Branch Library was the first building in San Antonio built specifically to house a branch of the library system. Nestled on the edge of historic San Pedro Springs Park, the library’s Spanish architecture features vaulted ceilings and two large archways. It was designed by father and son architects Atlee and Robert Ayres.

In 2007, a community block grant allowed for a total renovation of the building, which restored it to near its original condition.
