SAN ANTONIO (November 4, 2025) — The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) will host a public event with nationally-renowned author Curtis Chin on Monday, November 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Central Library (600 Soledad St., 78205). Chin will share stories from his memoir, “Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant.” The book reflects on his experiences growing up in Detroit as a gay Chinese American man in the 1980s.

The event is free and open to the public, and registration is required. Those interested in attending can sign up on SAPL’s website. Books will be available for purchase by Nowhere Bookshop, and Chin will sign copies following his talk.

A cofounder of the Asian American Writers' Workshop in New York City, Chin served as the nonprofit's first executive director. He went on to write for network television before transitioning to social-justice documentaries. Chin has screened his films at more than six hundred venues in sixteen countries.

Chin has written for CNN, Bon Appétit, and The Boston Globe's Emancipator. A graduate of the University of Michigan and a former visiting scholar at New York University, Chin has received awards from ABC/Disney Television, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and more.
