San Antonio Public Library Celebrates Black History Month

Programs, book lists, and activities happening throughout February.
SAN ANTONIO (February 2, 2026) — San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is honoring and recognizing the contributions of Black Americans in the local community and throughout U.S. history with a variety of programs and events in February.
Programs during the month will feature exhibits, music, film screenings and art. These SAPL Black History Month Events encourage San Antonians to recognize, connect and learn more about the deep roots of Black culture in the city year-round.
Go Together: San Antonio’s Black and African American Historic Communities
February 1 – 28
Location: Carver Branch Library at Denver Heights Community Center, 300 Porter St., 78210
This Black History Month pop-up exhibit highlights the city’s East Side neighborhoods, which are historically known for preserving San Antonio’s rich African American community and culture.
Black Stories: A History of Black Americans in Texas and the Powerful Impact of Storytelling with Poetry and Spoken Word

This two-hour poetry workshop will be led by Zenobia Anderson, poet and winner of the Mosaic African Diaspora Award 2025.
Your Local Community Zine Workshop
February 7, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: Pan American Library, 1122 W. Pyron Ave., 78221
This workshop will be facilitated by Office of Historic Preservation Specialist Dr. Charles Gentry, who will begin the workshop with a discussion of the graphic novel “A Home, a Church & a Hospital.”
Carver Friends Black History Month Breakfast & Lecture
February 14, 10 a.m. - noon

The Carver Friends group is honored to present Cary Clark in a lecture on Martin Luther King Jr.’s last book, “Where do we go from here: Chaos or Community?” Please join us for breakfast tacos, drinks and community to celebrate Black History Month.
Inspirational Quotes Art
February 14, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Join us for an art project using watercolor paper to highlight inspirational quotes from Black voices. All materials will be provided.
Black History Jazz Concert
February 21, 2 – 3 p.m.
Location: Collins Garden Branch Library, 200 N. Park, 78204
Join an enchanting afternoon of jazz music featuring the talented singer DevSoul as we celebrate Black History Month.
