SAN ANTONIO (March 27, 2025) — On Friday, March 28, 2025, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg will attend a summit in Washington hosted by the United States Conference of Mayors to discuss the local impacts of the tariffs imposed by the White House.
According to the United States Chamber of Commerce, one in five Texas jobs depends on international trade. Per the Observatory of Economic Complexity, San Antonio’s largest global trade partner is Mexico.
“Almost every economist is hinting at very real impacts on local American job markets,” said Mayor Nirenberg, “International trade helped lift thousands of San Antonio families into the middle class as our city became the economic gateway to Mexico. We are convening as North American mayors to ensure that our residents’ concerns – and their jobs – are properly considered by this federal administration.”
Over 25 mayors from the United States, Mexico, and Canada will meet in Washington, D.C. to discuss the local impacts of the ongoing global trade dispute. The mayors are expected to urge a repeal of the proposed federal tariffs.
