San Antonio Marathon Shares “Know Before You Go” for Inaugural Race

SAN ANTONIO (December 1, 2025) San Antonio Marathon, owned and operated by the city’s nonprofit sports commission San Antonio Sports, hosted a Know Before You Go press conference today at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center to help runners, spectators, residents, and visitors prepare for the highly anticipated inaugural San Antonio Marathon weekend, taking place December 5–7, 2025, in the heart of downtown. City leaders, public safety officials, and community ambassadors outlined what residents and runners need to know before race weekend begins.

Key partners, including Jenny Carnes, CEO, San Antonio Sports & San Antonio Marathon; Erik Walsh, San Antonio City Manager; Chief William McManus, San Antonio Police Department; and Santino Corrales, San Antonio Marathon Ambassador & Downtown Run Group representative, highlighted key information ahead of the event weekend. Officials shared essential details about the three-day event, including the race schedule, Expo details, public safety guidance, street closures, transportation options, and what to expect throughout the marathon footprint.

San Antonio Sports CEO JennyCarnes emphasized the significance of the city’s first-ever signature marathon. “This marathon has been years in the making, driven by a belief that San Antonio deserves a signature running event that reflects the spirit of our community,” said Carnes. “We’re proud that this race is created by San Antonio, for San Antonio—and we can’t wait to welcome runners from across the city, across Texas, and across the country.”

Carnes outlined the full weekend schedule, including the San Antonio Marathon Expo—free and open to the public—on Friday and Saturday; the SATX 5K presented by Holidays on Houston on Friday evening; and the Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday morning.

  • Friday, December 5: 
    • San Antonio Marathon Expo | Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center | Noon-7 p.m.
    • SATX 5K presented by Holidays on Houston | Hemisfair | 6-9 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 6
    • San Antonio Marathon Expo | Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 7
    • San Antonio Marathon and Half Marathon | Main Plaza Start Line | 7:15 a.m.
    • Finish Line Fiesta | Hemisfair Park | 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

San Antonio City Manager Erik Walsh and San Antonio Police Chief William McManus detailed the city’s extensive planning efforts between San Antonio Sports and multiple City departments.

Key Reminders for the Public 

  • Expect downtown street closures beginning Friday at 5 p.m. and throughout marathon weekend.
  • On Sunday, December 7, street closures will begin as early as 2 a.m. and will continue through 5 p.m. 
  • Visit SanAntonioMarathon.com/StreetClosures for access maps by neighborhood.
  • Use Waze to avoid road closures and plan.
  • Runners and spectators cancarpool, rideshare, or park for free at the Alamodome on Sunday, December 7, beginning at 5 a.m.
  • Check VIAInfo.net for VIA route changes and detours. 
  • Be aware of “No Parking” zones along the route as vehicles will be relocated. 
  • The San Antonio Marathon Expo is free and open to the public for bib pickup, vendors, wellness partners, and community activities.
  • Spectators are encouraged to cheer along the course routes and at the finish line village.
