San Antonio Celebrates Hispanic Heritage with Events Across the City

Special events, cultural programs and family-friendly activities will take place throughout through October 15.

SAN ANTONIO (September 11, 2026) — As Hispanic Heritage Month begins, the City of San Antonio invites the community to celebrate the rich culture, history and lasting contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities through a diverse lineup of events and activities. 

Observed annually from September 15 through October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the heritage and traditions of Hispanic and Latino communities, including San Antonio’s deep cultural and historical ties to Mexico. The monthlong observance also recognizes Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1810.

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Diez y Seis de Septiembre Commission invites the community to experience Fiestas Patrias 2026. The Commission was established in 1994 and holds cultural events throughout the city to promote an understanding of the historical significance of Mexico’s Day of Independence. 

Signature Fiestas Patrias events include: 

• September 12: El Grito Cultural Program & Civic Ceremony presented by Consulate General of Mexico in San Antonio at Historic Market Square
• September 12: 45th Annual Dieciséis de Septiembre Parade presented by Avenida Guadalupe Association at Corner of Brazos St. and Guadalupe
• September 12 – 13: Fiestas Patrias Celebration presented by LULAC 648 at Historic Market Square
• September 17 - 18: Celebrando Tradiciones: Corazón y Raíz presented by Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center at Carver Community Cultural Center 
• September 19: Diez y Seis Charreada presented by San Antonio Charro Association at San Antonio Charro Ranch
• October 10: Mariachi Festival presented by LULAC Council 4947 at Arneson River Theatre
• October 10: Fiesta Alegria presented by Avenida Guadalupe Association at Plaza Guadalupe

Additional events hosted by the City of San Antonio include: 

• September 17: Outdoor Family Film Series featuring "La Bamba" presented by World Heritage Office at Mission Marquee Plaza, followed by “Selena” on September 19
• September 19 – 26: From Argentine to American - A Hispanic Heritage Month Progressive Dance Experience presented by San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) at Central Library. SAPL has a robust line-up of events including Del Corazón: An Oral History Project, Dissecting the Westside Sound, Besos and Books Vol. 2: Celebrating Queer Latinx Romance, and Raza Cósmica: A Constellation of Latinx Sci-Fi Cinema. 
• September 21 – October 16: Hispanic Heritage Month Art Program presented by the Parks & Recreation Department at participating community centers. The department is also hosting other events in nature including Starting Out Wild: Coyotes and Bilingual Natural Areas Loteria.
• October 15: Mercado/Material opening reception presented by the Department of Arts & Culture at Centro de Artes, which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary.
