San Antonio Animal Care Services Urgently Needs Foster Homes for 100+ Dogs Before Weekend Cold Weather.

SAN ANTONIO (January 21, 2026) – San Antonio Animal Care Services is urgently calling on the community to place at least 100 dogs into foster homes before this weekend as the City prepares for incoming cold weather that could lead to an increase in animals entering the shelter.

With winter conditions approaching, immediate foster placements are critical to ensure pets are safe, warm, and protected, while also preventing dangerous overcrowding at the shelter. Short-term fosters play a vital role in saving lives during extreme weather events.

To meet this urgent need, SAACS is hosting two Foster Matchmaking Events to quickly connect residents with dogs and cats in need of temporary homes. Trained staff will be on site to help match families and individuals with pets that fit their lifestyle, schedule, and experience level.

Foster Matchmaking Events
Dates: Thursday, January 22; Friday, January 23
Time: 2 - 5 p.m.

Location: San Antonio Animal Care Services, 4710 State Highway 151

All foster supplies, food, medical care, and ongoing support are provided by SAACS. Community members do not need prior fostering experience – just the ability to provide a safe, warm space for a pet during this critical time.

Residents who can foster are strongly encouraged to attend one of the events or learn more immediately at SAACS.net.
