SAN ANTONIO (October 6, 2026) — Roosevelt Dual Language Academy students, families, and staff will tie their shoes, mount their bikes, and gather in the early morning to participate in Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
This event is being held by the City of San Antonio’s Transportation Department, in collaboration with Edgewood Independent School District. Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day is a showcase of the City’s Safe Routes to School program, highlighting the importance of safe, healthy, and active transportation for students and supporting community-wide efforts to reduce traffic congestion around schools.
Families are encouraged to gather at the Flea Market parking lot (115 St. Louis Ave., 78237) near the school at 6:45 a.m. Breakfast snacks will be available. The group will begin the half-mile route to school at 7:15 a.m., with volunteers helping to lead the way.
“These kids are choosing a healthy alternative for getting to school, and their families are reducing car traffic during peak morning hours,” said Sean Beauvais, Safe Routes to School Program Manager. “The result is less traffic congestion, improved air quality, and some healthy exercise that promotes independence in children.”
The event supports the City’s broader goals to build safer streets and more walkable communities, aligning with San Antonio’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.
“At Roosevelt Dual Language Academy, we believe that promoting healthy habits, building strong family connections, and fostering community partnerships are essential to student success. Walk & Bike to School Day is a wonderful opportunity to bring our Fearless Falcons, families, and community together while encouraging active and healthy lifestyles,” said Itzamara Canales, Principal of Roosevelt Dual Language Academy. “We are grateful for our collaboration with the City of San Antonio in making this special event possible and for their continued support of safe, healthy opportunities for our families.”
Families are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and join in the fun to celebrate healthier habits and safer streets for all.
