SAN ANTONIO (October 28, 2025) – Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones hires Carlos de Leon as Communications Director and Sophia Alejandro as Policy Advisor.
“We are thrilled to have Carlos and Sophia on our team working for the people of San Antonio,” said Jones. “Sophia will bring her expertise to bear, advancing our policy priorities and forging relationships in every corner of the city. At the same time, Carlos’ keen perspective and experience in public affairs and economic development will ensure our constituents stay informed about our progress. Together, we will connect San Antonio to the world by telling our story and showcasing our city as a great place to live, work and thrive.”
De Leon has worked in public affairs, communications and economic development in South Texas for more than 15 years. Before joining the mayor’s office, he led the San Antonio office of Romph Pou Agency, a national marketing and advertising firm, where he managed a portfolio of clients across the United States and developed award-winning marketing campaigns. Earlier in his career, De Leon worked for a binational think tank focused on U.S.-Mexico relations. He also served Bexar County residents as director of community engagement for Precinct 4 and is currently a faculty member at the University of the Incarnate Word’s School of Professional Studies.
Alejandro is a former program coordinator at UnidosUS, where she supported initiatives focused on advancing educational equity and policy advocacy. She previously served as a policy fellow with the South Dakota Educational Equity Coalition and is a former Teach For America corps member who taught at Jefferson High School in San Antonio, where she promoted literacy and student empowerment. During this time, she also worked with Leadership for Educational Equity on the Texas Statewide Issue Action Team, advocating for and against bills affecting Texas students. Her background also includes communications work.
