SAN ANTONIO (June 17, 2026) – With the Fourth of July approaching, San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) is encouraging pet owners to "Beat the Boom" by preparing their pets before the holiday. SAACS will host a free pet safety clinic on Saturday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at Monterrey Park, 5919 West Commerce St., to help families prepare their companion animals for loud celebrations.
Following the Fourth of July, shelters often see a surge in lost pets as animals frightened by fireworks and holiday celebrations escape from their homes and yards. The clinic on June 20 will offer free registered microchips and protective vaccinations to help keep pets safe and improve their chances of being reunited with their families if they become lost.
Clinic services are for City of San Antonio residents only, limited to the first 200 pets served (three pets per household), and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents must bring a current picture ID for address verification. All pets must be leashed or in an appropriate kennel to receive services.
Each pet must be microchipped or will receive a microchip at the time of service. Pet guardians with already “chipped” pets should verify their pet’s microchip contact information is up to date. By law, pets in San Antonio must have a registered, up-to-date microchip and an annual rabies vaccination.
