District 4 Councilmember marks one year in office.
SAN ANTONIO (June 2, 2026) – After serving one year in office, District 4 Councilmember Edward Mungia is thrilled to partner with the Parks and Recreation Department for a community celebration marking 10 Years of Play at Pearsall Park. On June 13, residents of all abilities and ages will come together to celebrate a decade of transforming a former landfill into a community-driven destination park with amenities including the city’s largest skate park, a full disc golf course, and the city’s first dog park spanning 505 acres.
The fun-filled, family-friendly day will feature activations across 3 zones at Pearsall Park, including a fun run at 8 a.m. for those interested in running or walking to explore the park trails. The opening ceremony will kick off the official celebration at 9 a.m., featuring Councilmember Mungia and former District 4 Councilmembers Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia, Rey Saldaña, Philip Cortez, and Richard Perez, who all helped make Pearsall Park a reality by championing public investments through multiple City Bond Programs.
“There is no better way to mark a year serving District 4 than by celebrating a project that I witnessed in the early phases as an intern and to see the level of investment made thanks to the advocacy of community leaders,” stated the District 4 Councilmember. “Our hope is that we continue making a transformational impact across District 4 with community input at the forefront.”
Residents can participate in the San Antonio Sports Fiesta del Futbol, a disc golf demo, basketball clinics, yoga and Zumba classes. Attendees will be treated to dance performances and DJ music throughout the event. The playground, splash pad, obstacle course and skate park will be open to attendees along with a vendor village where they can connect with community partners and local vendors, including food trucks. For bike enthusiasts, the bicycle pump track and beginner bike park will also be accessible at the park entrance closest to Southwest Military Drive with activities for youth and adults.
Park visitors are encouraged to participate in the District 4 Dream Big interactive experience, where residents can share what they would like to see in their neighborhood parks and what they imagine the next decade of Pearsall Park to be with future investments. Residents will be asked to complete a survey and provide direct input to the District 4 team to help staff compile a list of potential future bond projects for consideration.
The art installations, “Wickiup Encampment” and “Wickiup Overlook”, created by nationally recognized artist Buster Simpson, and “Ujuālnān (Grand Sky),” a 10-piece planetary sculpture installation created by artist Doroteo Garza representing the solar system, can also be found at Pearsall Park.
