SAN ANTONIO (December 12, 2024) – Despite our initial belief that Officer William Kasberg’s death was accidental, SAPD was notified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office that his death will be ruled a suicide. SAPD’s investigation has also discovered evidence to support the medical examiner’s ruling. It appears that Kasberg used a personally owned handgun to commit this act. SAPD has since learned that Kasberg was under criminal investigation by the Rockport Police Department for an incident that occurred in their jurisdiction. These are still active investigations so further details cannot be released.

The SAPD Wellness Unit, Psychological Services, Peer Support and Department chaplains are available to department personnel to assist officers during this difficult time.
