San Antonio's City Headquarters now features new sculptures to greet visitors and employees.

SAN ANTONIO (April 16, 2025) – The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture today announced the completion of “City Lights” by San Antonio artist team R&R&R (Robert Diaz de Leon, Ronny Eckels and Ryan Takaba). These two nearly 19-foot sculptures are located at 100 W. Houston Street in front of City Tower, known as the headquarters for the City of San Antonio’s operations.

"This project speaks to its surroundings, blending history, culture, native plants and wildlife, and lighting to reflect San Antonio’s city lights,” said Krystal Jones, Director of the Department of Arts & Culture. “The new sculptures not only enhance the City Tower entrance to warmly welcome visitors seeking City services, but they also celebrate the unique spirit and artistry of our community."

R&R&R selected Pecos Red for the lamp posts to pay homage to the historic architectural features downtown. Native to San Antonio, Yucca blossoms on the lanterns symbolize protection while steel and bronze butterflies and vines, inspired by Queen’s Wreath, represent local plants and migrating butterflies.

"We hope that ‘City Lights’ inspires visitors to downtown with this design that is rooted in San Antonio's historic traditions while looking towards the City's bright future,” the artist team R&R&R said in a joint statement. “Just like the series of butterflies that rest atop the sculptures, we hope people are drawn to their light."
