SAN ANTONIO (February 21, 2025) — The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture, in collaboration with the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD), announced the completion of “Afterglow of Honor” by San Antonio artist Autumn Saleh of Wanderlust Ironworks. This project honors both San Antonio fire and emergency medical services. The artwork can be found on the façade of Fire Station 24 (2265 Austin Highway) which is located in Council District 2 and also serving Council District 10.

“It’s such an honor to be chosen for this project. It feels great to give something back to the women and men who give so much of themselves to our community,” said Saleh. “I hope it makes the station feel more like a second home for many years to come.”

Featured in the artwork are a ladder and axe formed from steel, and a copper paramedic star of life with a snake and staff symbol.

“This art piece shows the time, dedication and passion that the artist puts into her work, which appropriately reflects those same virtues our men and women of the SAFD embody serving the people of San Antonio,” said Fire Chief Valerie Frausto.

Also, immortalized in the 38-foot-long and 12-foot-tall sculpture is Mr. B, who served as the station’s dog and is remembered for helping fire trucks safely exit the station.

“Through our research, we found that the community wanted this artwork to honor all types of personnel who serve San Antonio during times of crisis and to incorporate themes of heroinism,” said Department of Arts & Culture Director Krystal Jones. “This is the first City of San Antonio public art project that Wanderlust Ironworks has been lead on and also the first outdoor artwork at a fire station.”
