SAN ANTONIO (June 11, 2026) — The McCreless Branch Library (1023 Ada St.) is celebrating 60 years of community service. The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) will host an anniversary celebration filled with free activities for the whole family on Saturday, June 13.
The event will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a speaking ceremony reflecting on the history and community impact of the McCreless Branch Library, featuring Library Board of Trustees Chair Juspreet Kaur, Library Trustee Josie Martinez, and Library Director Sukrit Goswami. Free, family-friendly activities following the speaking ceremony include face painting, arts and crafts, Pokémon Go Gaming, and more. SAPL mascot Smarty will greet guests and pose for photos.
The McCreless Branch Library opened its doors on August 14, 1966. It was designed to serve as a resource center for residents throughout the Southeast part of San Antonio and Bexar County. The site for the library was donated to the city by developers G. Sealie and Sollie E. McCreless, after whom the branch is named.
Renovations in 1995, 2006, and 2022 added improvements and expansions to the library, which now serves the surrounding community as a 12,000 square-foot facility and offers dynamic, interactive spaces for children, teens, and adults seeking assistance with educational and workforce training resources.
