Mayor’s Statement on Council Decision on Data Centers

SAN ANTONIO (October 29, 2026) – Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones released the following statement on City Council passing a new process for data center consideration in San Antonio.

“Today, we took a step forward to ensure City Council has the opportunity to review each data center application, and that is an important safeguard given how quickly this industry is changing. Councilman Ric Galvan’s leadership is to be commended. 

“While my provisions focused on increasing transparency, protecting public health, and protecting property values were not included in today’s resolution, they will serve as my office’s standards when each data center application is reviewed. We can and must balance our country’s economic and national security needs with the basic quality of life and public health protections that so many other communities have enacted when zoning data centers.”
