SAN ANTONIO (September 9, 2025) – On September 8, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones visited more than half of the 14 flood mitigation projects in San Antonio listed on the state’s Flood Mitigation Plan in an effort to ensure the city has the resources it needs to address the impacts from severe storms.

Flooding is top of mind for many San Antonians; during the Mayor’s Town Hall last week, constituents shared their concerns and detailed the reality in their neighborhoods. One story in particular stuck out, as a woman from the Channing block in District 3 shared she had been working for decades to draw attention to flooding on her street. With the heavy rains on Sunday, the mayor had the opportunity to visit the Channing block to see the flooding firsthand.

“There are significant infrastructure needs throughout the city, including flood prevention and mitigation projects from Rock Creek to Huebner Creek that can help protect the safety of residents, curb long-term costs, and enable economic development,” said Mayor Jones. “I’m committed to understanding the full scope of our residents' needs and working with Council and the State to prioritize and fund projects that help our city thrive.”

In addition to the eight site visits already conducted, the Mayor will tour the remaining six sites on September 12 to inform flood mitigation investments that may need to be considered in the FY2026 budget and/or a future infrastructure bond.

In July, the Mayor sent a letter to the San Antonio State Delegation that outlined three requests for the Texas Legislature. While not all of the requests were addressed in the special session, the Mayor continues to work towards executing the projects.

The project sites visited on September 8 are:

  • Barbara Drive Drainage Improvements (Dellwood and Shadywood)
  • Thames Drainage Channel Replacement (Thames and York)
  • Rock Creek (West Ave and Rock Creek)
  • Overbrook Drainage Improvements (11 Epler Drive)
  • Seeling Drainage Improvements (Seeling and Placid Drive)
  • Blue Ridge Drive Drainage Improvements (Blueridge St. and N San Manuel)
  • Concepcion Creek Channel (Nogalitos St. and Concepcion Court)
  • Symphony Lane (1706 E Pyron)
