SAN ANTONIO (November 6, 2026) — Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones seeks to amend the City of San Antonio’s State Legislative Program for the 90th Texas Legislature citing new opportunities to advance the City’s priorities following the historic November 3 election results.

In a memo to City Council, Mayor Jones emphasized the importance of reassessing the City’s legislative agenda to reflect the changing political landscape ahead of the upcoming legislative agenda and explicitly state the legislative outcomes of interest to the City. She cited the following outcomes:

  • Expand Medicaid coverage and address the state program's 210,000 application backlog;
  • Repeal Texas House Bill 2127, also known as the "Death Star" bill;
  • Repeal both the 2017 and 2023 Texas Senate Bill 4, the controversial laws regarding immigration enforcement;
  • Remove unnecessary barriers to voting, to include Congressional redistricting;
  • Repeal the State law prohibiting cities and counties from passing ordinances that prohibit source of income discrimination for all;
  • Repeal restrictive reproductive healthcare barriers.

“The November 3 election results present new opportunities for Texans, and San Antonio must be ready to work with our State delegation to capitalize on those to dramatically improve the lives of our neighbors,” wrote the Mayor. “From public health, to voting rights, to restoring local governments’ ability to respond to the needs of their communities, the voters spoke on November 3, and our legislative priorities must boldly reflect the change our residents want and deserve.”
