Mayor Remembers Dolores Huerta

SAN ANTONIO (October 28, 2026) – Today, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones released the following statement on the passing of Dolores Huerta.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dolores Huerta. A champion for civil and workers’ rights, she spent her life fighting for equality and dignity for the most vulnerable,” said the Mayor.

“A tireless advocate for voting rights, Dolores came to San Antonio just last November to support our efforts to move the municipal elections from May to November, understanding the change’s significance for voter participation, especially in a Hispanic-majority community. We owe our success to her forceful words.

“I will cherish and honor the times in her presence, always marveled by her courage and character. May perpetual light shine upon her.”
