SAN ANTONIO (September 25, 2025) – This week, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones celebrates 100 days in office, advocating for the people of San Antonio.

The Mayor stated, "San Antonio has a generational opportunity ahead of us, and I am working every day to hear from constituents, including community, business, and faith leaders, about how we want to invest in our future. My priority is making San Antonio a city that supports all residents. By working with City Council members, City staff, and county and local business leaders, the team is identifying ways to partner on our pressing community needs, from affordable housing to early childhood education to supporting our seniors, to creating jobs and bringing investments to San Antonio.

"As the economic outlook dulls and federal cuts loom, constituents' priorities are shifting — we see that in our lowered sales tax revenues, and I hear that financial anxiety at the town halls I’ve hosted. That’s why we should continue to advocate for things like revenue sharing with the Spurs to help meet some of our city’s greatest needs. Closed mouths don’t get fed — we need to ask for our fair share from naming rights, ticket sales, and concessions. An independent economic analysis would benefit the community, allowing everyone to enter this deal with the data we need to make informed decisions.

“In exploring solutions on topics like early childhood education, affordable childcare, and workforce development, the data is not readily available to inform our decision-making, and by working with City staff, we can better understand and address these gaps to put plans in place that build a strong foundation across the city.

“In addition to building out better data, I’m focused on bringing the City Council together to address the budget deficit for FY27 and am working with the City Manager to host a tabletop exercise to assess how the City could better respond to the impacts of anticipated cuts to federally-funded programs, particularly in the areas of public health, affordable housing, and social services.

“We have a staffing analysis for our police officers, and it’s important we have similarly rigorous studies on other aspects of our public safety and public health budgets to ensure those are also adequately funded.

“Another key priority is education. It lays the groundwork for a strong workforce and builds the foundation for a thriving community. In an effort to move forward on campaign promises, I established the Educational Opportunities Committee focused on helping to improve educational outcomes, which is the key to building our City's long-term economic strength and competitiveness.

“In August, I recruited the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) Electrical Vehicles and Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Delegation to San Antonio to discuss potential opportunities to host advanced manufacturing operations here. I’m thankful that the event has already generated a follow-on engagement. In early September, we hosted the Honorable Oswaldo Betancort García, President of the Lanzarote Island Council and Member of Parliament of the Autonomous Government of the Canary Islands, for bilateral talks. The discussion focused on the opportunities to promote two-way tourism, collaborate on infrastructure projects, and further strengthen relations between our two regions' small businesses.

“To serve our residents and attract businesses to our area, we must address our infrastructure needs, which is another priority for the administration. In July, I traveled to Austin during the Special Session to advocate for tens of millions in flood relief and infrastructure improvements for the City, and earlier this month toured the 14 flood mitigation projects in San Antonio listed on the state's Flood Mitigation Plan. We are working with City staff to prioritize and identify avenues for funding flood mitigation projects to better prepare for severe storms and ensure constituents are safe.

“The Mayor’s Office has followed through on campaign promises to create more transparency by working with the City Manager and Council to create policies on the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), giving city taxpayers clarity on when and why these are used by City staff, largely for economic development deals.

“Looking ahead, we will continue to work with Council, City staff, and communities to foster success for San Antonio. As stated on multiple occasions, I vowed to serve the people of San Antonio, Military City USA, and will continue to create avenues for good policy that positively drive generational change — remaining pragmatic, proactive, and prepared.”
