With SNAP benefits on pause, the Mayor is calling on local businesses and community leaders to help bridge the gap.
SAN ANTONIO (October 31, 2025) – Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is leading the effort to raise money from local businesses and community leaders to bridge the gap as SNAP funding is suspended. The Mayor has rallied San Antonio business leaders to donate more than $1.6 million to the Feeding San Antonio Fund and is calling on more companies to join the cause.
“No one in our community should go hungry,” the Mayor said. “Our seniors and families deserve our support right now. In San Antonio, we are coming together to put food on the table for those who need it most. Over 100,000 households in our community will lose SNAP funding, and I am grateful to these business and community leaders for swiftly answering my call to care for the folks most impacted by these cuts.”
The City will distribute more than $1.6 million in H-E-B gift cards to help seniors and children facing food insecurity and financial hardship due to the federal government shutdown. The program will prioritize low-income seniors, and households with young children experiencing financial strain to ensure the support reaches those most in need.
Title sponsor USAA led the effort among business leaders supporting the Mayor’s initiative. Other major donors include Frost Bank, Gambrinus Company, Gordon Hartman Family Foundation, H-E-B, Joeris General Contractors, IBC Bank, Kym Rampier Foundation, Spurs Sports and Entertainment, The Latino Foundation of the San Antonio Area Foundation, Valero, the Office of Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, and the San Antonio Area Foundation, among others.
The donations will be managed and financially administered through the San Antonio Area Foundation and distributed through the City’s Human Services and Metro Health Departments.
Those who would like to donate to the Feeding San Antonio Fund should visit the San Antonio Area Foundation website.
