Mayor’s Statement on Death of John Jay High School Student

SAN ANTONIO (October 15, 2025) – Following the tragic death of a John Hay High School student, the Mayor released the following statement:

“My heart goes out to the family and friends of John Jay High School student José Flores. In this difficult time, I know my John Jay community will unite to heal and honor this student who left us too soon. 

“This devastating loss underscores the need to prioritize street safety. The City of San Antonio's Public Works Department is addressing how we can improve safety for our students and prevent such tragedies in the future.”
