SAN ANTONIO (October 29, 2026) – Today, the Mayor proposed two amendments to the 2027 Bond Program (Bond) during Thursday's City Council A-Session, both addressing the $35 million in proposed downtown infrastructure investments.
“I have consistently stated that we need to prioritize Bond dollars on our neighbors’ basic infrastructure needs, use other eligible pots of money for infrastructure, and let our neighbors have more of a say in how their money is spent.
“In that vein, I offered two amendments today. The first amendment would have removed the $35 million for arena-related downtown infrastructure from the Bond, understanding that could be paid from the $1.9 billion Project Finance Zone. The second amendment requested that the $35 million for arena-related downtown infrastructure be a separate Bond proposition, allowing our neighbors to vote on that item by itself. While both amendments failed — the first by a vote of 4-6 with one abstention, and the second by a vote of 5-6 — I remain committed to a Bond that is focused on economic development and works to address our city’s historical inequities.
