SAN ANTONIO (February 11, 2026) — The Maverick Branch Library (8700 Mystic Park), is celebrating 20 years of community service. The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) will host an anniversary celebration filled with free activities for the whole family on Saturday, February 14.
The event will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a speaking ceremony reflecting on the history and community impact of the Maverick Branch, featuring District 7 Councilmember Marina Alderete Gavito, Library Trustee Michele Dalbis-Robledo, Assistant City Manager David W. McCary, and Library Director Sukrit Goswami. Free, family-friendly activities following the speaking ceremony include a goat petting zoo, balloon art, face painting, arts and craft activities, a jazz quartet and more. SAPL mascot Smarty will greet guests and pose for photos.
The Maverick Branch features an iconic façade viewable from Mystic Park. This public art was made possible by the City of San Antonio’s Design Enhancement Program. San Antonio-based artist Henry Rayburn developed the concept for the artwork, referencing the initial design of Maverick Branch Library by Alamo Architects.
Maverick Branch Library opened its doors on February 18, 2006. It is named after native San Antonian Maury Maverick, Jr who was a Veteran, attorney, Texas state legislator and long-time columnist for the San Antonio Express-News.
