SAN ANTONIO (October 6, 2025) — Loma Park students, parents, and faculty will wear their favorite walking shoes and inflate their bike tires to participate in Walk & Bike to School Day on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, as part of the City of San Antonio’s Safe Routes to School program.

Families are encouraged to gather at Monterrey Park near the school at 6:45 a.m. for some snacks and fun activities centered around safety education for Pedestrian Safety Month. The group will begin the half-mile route to school at 7:15 a.m., with the City’s Transportation Department staff, parents, and school volunteers helping lead the way.

The event highlights the importance of safe, healthy, and active transportation for students and supports community-wide efforts to reduce traffic congestion around schools.

“This event was so popular last spring that we brought it back for Pedestrian Safety Month,” said Sean Beauvais, Safe Routes to School Program Manager. “Students walking and biking is not only healthy; it also helps reduce car traffic during peak morning hours, improving air quality and neighborhood safety for everyone.”

The students used maps to help identify their safe route to school from their homes, aligning with the City’s broader goals to build more walkable communities and San Antonio’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.

“We’ll be cheering on our Loma Park students as they move along North 38th Street,” said Laura Mendoza, Loma Park Elementary School’s Principal. “We know it will be a fun way to get moving together. We’re thankful for this partnership with the City of San Antonio in making this event happen.”

Families are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and join in the fun to celebrate healthier habits and safer streets for all.
