SAN ANTONIO (April 30, 2025) — The City of San Antonio’s Transportation Department, in partnership with its Safe Routes to School program, invites Loma Park Elementary students, families, and school staff to participate in Walk & Bike to School Day on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

Families are encouraged to gather at Monterrey Park near the school at 7 a.m. The group will begin the half-mile route to school at 7:15 a.m., with Transportation Department staff, parents, and volunteers helping lead the way.

This event highlights the importance of safe, healthy, and active transportation for students and supports community-wide efforts to reduce traffic congestion around schools.

“Walking or biking just a half mile to school is a powerful way to encourage daily exercise and promote independence in children,” said Sean Beauvais, Safe Routes to School Program Manager. “It also helps reduce car traffic during peak morning hours, improving air quality and neighborhood safety for everyone.”

The event supports the City’s broader goals to build safer streets and more walkable communities, aligning with San Antonio’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.

“We love cheering on healthy habits, so Walk & Bike to School Day is perfect for our Loma Park community,” said Claudia Barrios, Loma Park Elementary School’s Principal. “We know it will be a fun way to get moving together. We’re thankful for this partnership with the City of San Antonio in making this event happen.”

Families are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and join in the fun to celebrate healthier habits and safer streets for all.
