SAN ANTONIO (November 17, 2025) – The Las Palmas Branch Library (515 Castroville Rd., 78237) is scheduled to reopen on November 17 following a transformative $7 million renovation project funded by the City of San Antonio 2017 and 2022 Bond programs with additional funding through the San Antonio Public Library Foundation.

Library services will resume November 17 at noon. A grand reopening celebration is scheduled for Saturday, December 6 at 10 a.m. The grand reopening celebration will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, free, family-friendly activities, food, performances, crafts and more.

“I’m honored to welcome our community back to the renovated and expanded Las Palmas Branch Library,” said Library Director Sukrit Goswami. “This branch has long been a cornerstone for Westside families, students, and neighbors, and now it’s ready to serve in even bigger and better ways. Our dedicated and proud staff are eager to welcome every member of the Las Palmas community. We’re excited to continue providing the resources and services everyone deserves.”

The project is a complete renovation of the existing library, including a 2,000 square foot expansion housing the new H-E-B Community Room. The transformation also includes renovated and relocated Teen and Children’s areas; technology upgrades to the community meeting room, children’s area and computer lab; improvements to customer service areas; restroom renovations; and a new monument sign with digital marquee to increase visibility to the public. New collection of books and materials, paint, flooring, lighting, furniture, building systems, roofing and more complete the transformation.

Las Palmas Branch Library closed for renovation in March 2023, and Library services were provided at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) until November 10.

The Las Palmas Branch Library first opened on March 23, 1969, on land deeded by the Las Palmas Corporation. In 1989, the community voted to pass a bond to build a new, larger facility. Construction of the current Las Palmas building began in June 1993. The building opened in April 1994. Las Palmas Branch Library was last renovated in 2009.
