SAN ANTONIO (January 26, 2026) – More than 250 neighbors joined the City of San Antonio Neighborhood and Housing Services Department at Highlands High School for the 4th annual Housing in San Antonio event. Supported by the City’s 10-year Strategic Housing Implementation Plan (SHIP), this collaborative event featured a robust lineup of programming designed to inform, engage, and support neighbors navigating housing opportunities across San Antonio.

“Through the City's SHIP, we are making long-term investments in housing stability and affordability, strengthening our communities and stimulating economic development,” said Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones. “This event reflects that commitment by connecting families with tools, programs, and partners working to build a stronger, more affordable housing future for San Antonio.”

The event featured more than 50 resource fair tables offering direct access to housing assistance programs, community services, and partner organizations. Attendees also participated in 11 discussion sessions covering topics ranging from community input on affordable housing initiatives to fair housing information for renters.

“Everyone in San Antonio deserves access to affordable housing,” said District 3 Councilmember Phyllis Viagran. “The Housing in San Antonio event is about meeting people where they are, learning from communities, and making sure people are connected to policies and resources.”

Housing in San Antonio also highlighted progress made under the City’s SHIP. Through year four of the plan, the City has already exceeded goals in six categories, including the preservation of rental homes for families at or below 30% Area Median Income (AMI). Additionally, 4,290 homes for older adults are in progress or complete—representing 358% of the SHIP goal—and approximately half of the City’s Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) goal has been met, with 477 PSH homes in progress or complete.

In addition to housing-focused resources, the event offered activities and amenities for all ages, including:

  • youth activities hosted by the San Antonio Public Library.
  • interactive displays highlighting housing affordability, the affordable housing bond, NHSD programs, storytelling, SHIP strategies, and the Housing Commission.
  • informational videos covering property tax assistance, renter rights, and storytelling.
  • complimentary tacos, snacks, and coffee for attendees.
  • San Antonio Food Bank produce bags for the first 150 attendees.
  • ASL and Spanish interpretation.

This community space was held in collaboration with Opportunity Home San Antonio, the San Antonio Housing Trust, and Bexar County, and was sponsored by Frost and Jefferson Bank.
