Great Northwest Branch Library Turns 30!

SAN ANTONIO (October 17, 2024) — San Antonio Public Library’s (SAPL) Great Northwest Branch Library is turning 30! Nestled between neighborhoods on San Antonio’s northwest side, Great Northwest Branch Library has served countless San Antonio-area children, teens, and adults since opening to the public on October 22, 1994.
In celebration of this milestone, SAPL will host a fall-themed anniversary celebration with activities for the whole family on Saturday, October 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Celebration activities will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a brief ceremony to mark the occasion.

Great Northwest Branch Library opened in 1994 to serve residents and the general public in the growing communities of northwest San Antonio. The award-winning 12,500-square-foot building was designed by the architecture firm Lake/Flato, Inc., and featured in architectural and library journals upon its grand opening. A meeting room and children's area increased the square footage to 17,000 in 2006.
Over 100,000 patrons visit Great Northwest annually, and the branch loans an average of over 25,000 items monthly. Great Northwest’s collection includes over 80,000 items, including books, audiobooks, music, videos, magazines, newspapers, and financial publications. Like all SAPL locations, Great Northwest offers public computers with internet access and free Wi-Fi service for patrons using their own laptops or mobile devices. The staff at Great Northwest also offers weekly programs and events for people of all ages.
