Grassroots Engagement Sustainability Grants for Local Organizations

SAN ANTONIO (June 13, 2025) — Grant applications are now open for the City of San Antonio Climate Ready Community Action Fund. The fund’s Grassroots Engagement Grant Program empowers community groups to provide climate action and sustainability education to underserved and front-line San Antonio communities.
The grant invites innovative proposals for engagement and education projects within San Antonio City Limits. With grants up to $10,000 available, organizations can make a tangible impact on their communities and contribute to a greener future for all residents. The deadline to apply for a grant is June 20 at midnight.
Eligibility for funding extends to a broad range of projects, with particular emphasis on those addressing targeted heat challenges and advancing the goals outlined in the SA Climate Ready Plan Update.
Projects Include
- Door knocking and block walking
- Online and digital communications
- Attending planning discussions
- Conducting surveys
- Lunch and learns
- Phone banking
- Social media
- Newsletters
- Websites
- Events
The SA Climate Ready Community Action Fund welcomes applicants from a wide array of entities, such as:
- Faith-based organizations
- Community organizations
- Neighborhood associations
- Non-profit organizations
“Last year’s overwhelming interest in this program brought so many diverse projects to the table that support the implementation of the SA Climate Ready Plan,” said Doug Melnick, Chief Sustainability Officer. “These projects gave community groups the opportunity to educate and act by making their neighborhood more resilient to the effects of climate change.”
