Generational San Antonio Art on Display at Culture Commons Gallery
Published on February 11, 2026
SAN ANTONIO (February 11, 2026) – The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture presents a new exhibition that honors the city’s generational artistic landscape. “Built on Legacy: Artists of San Antonio” showcases 23 artists — both living and deceased — who represent the evolution of the city’s art scene over the last five decades.
The artwork includes prints, sculptures, installations, and more from San Antonio ancestors, elders, and members of the next generation. Collectively these artists represent the enduring legacy of artistic excellence, community, and cultural pride that defines San Antonio.
"San Antonio’s artistic identity stands on the foundation laid by those who came before us. This exhibition pays tribute to their contributions while opening doors for current and future artists to build upon that rich legacy," said Krystal Jones, Director of the Department of Arts & Culture.
The public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, February 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Culture Commons Gallery (115 Plaza de Armas). Complimentary appetizers will be served, accompanied with refreshments by Dorcól Distilling & Brewing Company. This event is free and open to the public. Plan your trip with VIA.
The exhibition will be on display until January 15, 2027. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
