Federal Disaster Assistance Approved for August Storms

SAN ANTONIO (September 15, 2026) — Governor Greg Abbott announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) approved his request to include South-Central Texas communities, including Bexar County, in the federal disaster declaration for severe weather following storms that impacted the region in August.
Other counties included in the federal declaration are Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson. This SBA assistance will provide critical support to homeowners, renters, and businesses as they work to recover from the damage.
The SBA granted access to its Home Disaster Loans, Business Physical Disaster Loans, and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, which will provide low-interest loans to qualifying homeowners, renters, and businesses in affected South-Central Texas communities following the severe storms that occurred in August.
Counties included in the federal declaration are Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson.
Applicants may apply online, receive additional disaster assistance information, and download applications at sba.gov/disaster. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance. Completed applications should be mailed to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX 76155.
SBA representatives will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center to explain the application process, assist with completing applications, and address questions about the disaster loan programs. Starting today, a Disaster Loan Outreach Center will be located at Las Palmas Library, 515 Castroville Rd, 78237, open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Tuesdays from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Resident Assistance
Sixteen residents and two pets stayed overnight Sunday at City Resilience Hubs. Hubs will remain open today at Gilbert Garza Community Center, Normoyle Community Center and Northeast Senior Center.
Libraries, parks and community centers are also available as daytime places to stay cool. VIA is providing free transportation to both places to stay cool and the three Resilience Hubs. Visit SA.gov/HotWeather for locations and resources.

City teams continue door-to-door outreach to identify residents who need food, water, debris removal, transportation or other assistance.
Public Safety
Drivers are reminded to slow down, move over and use extra caution around crews and work zones as cleanup and restoration efforts continue throughout the city.
Storm damage also continues to affect traffic signals. As of 1 p.m., 145 of the City’s 1,525 traffic signals had been restored, 13 remained in flash mode, 62 were potentially malfunctioning, and 35 intersections had signal damage. Drivers should use extra caution around affected intersections. If a traffic signal is flashing red or not operating, treat the intersection as four-way stop.
SAPD has increased evening and overnight patrols in neighborhoods affected by extended outages and will maintain the additional presence while outages persist.
