Exhibit Explores Latinx Experiences Through Humor at Centro de Artes

SAN ANTONIO (April 8, 2026) – An art exhibition titled “A Postmodernist Says ¿Qué?” will open at the Department of Arts & Culture’s Centro De Artes Gallery in Historic Market Square on Thursday, April 9. This exhibit is curated by Vikky Jones and showcases paintings, video, performance, and more that invoke humor through the vastly diverse Latinx experiences. 

The public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, April 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Centro De Artes (101 S. Santa Rosa, 78207). Food will be provided, as well as refreshments by Dorcól Distilling & Brewing Company. This event is free and open to the public. Plan your trip with VIA.

The title of the exhibit itself is a joke that the curator hopes can spark thoughtful reactions among viewers.

“In this Postmodern take on funny, I gathered artists with a range of humor stemming from the Latinx and Chicanx point of view,” curator Vikky Jones said. “Because there are so many types of humor, it is a dynamic way for people to relate, and I hope that the audience will appreciate the sensibilities, parodies, caricatures, observations, and nuances of these artists.” 

The artwork includes references to popular culture, such as gas station snacks and Bad Bunny, that serve as inside jokes. Other forms of humor are explored, including satire, parody, dark humor, and roasts. By adding a sense of levity to cultural experiences, this artwork points out discrepancies among us — and simultaneously brings us together. 

"Laughter is such an effective way to find joy in community, and that’s exactly what we hope this art exhibit can achieve,” Department of Arts & Culture Director Krystal Jones said.

The exhibit will be on display until August 30, 2026. Centro de Artes is open Wednesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Learn more at the Centro de Artes webpage.
